What would Roving Mad be without another hobby that I get obsessed about? (And a silence of 6 months between posts…) Well, I’ve gotten into cocktails the last few months – visiting some of the finer cocktail joints in DC and generally being impressed by the more complex, exotic cocktails, using harder to find spirits.
Those harder to find spirits are pretty easy to find at Schneider’s in DC. So last time I was there, I stocked up on a bunch of liquors that I wanted to mix together. Tonight was an Amaro/Gin experiment night.
Thanks to Google, I found the Howick Hall on this website. It seemed like the perfect mix of what I wanted – and I just so happened to have versions of the ingredients, minus the orange bitters. It turned out great, but I riffed on it a bit because the first one I made had too much lemon juice and I didn’t have the exact spirits. So here is the less lemon-y version with ingredients that I had. 🙂
- 1 oz Averna Amaro
- 1 oz The Botanist gin (need to try Green Hat next time)
- 1/2 oz lemon juice
- 1/3 oz Demerara Syrup
- 1/4 oz Luxardo Maraschino
- dash of Peychaud’s Bitters
P.S. Here is the original recipe, in case that website disappears.
- 1 oz Ramazzotti
- 1 oz gin (Breuckelen)
- 2/3 oz lemon juice
- 1/3 simple syrup
- ¼ oz Luxardo Maraschino
- dash of Regan’s Orange Bitters
